In my absence I’ve also done the impossible. I learnt how to knit socks! I KNOW I KNOW! Crazy. But I did indeed, do it. There was many an obscenity said, and lots of youtubery watched, but in the end the sock was conquered, and to be honest..it’s really not all that hard.

ImageImageMy beautiful uneven stitches, how I love thee.ย ImageSparkle yarn is the best kind of yarn, no?ImageImageAnd here are my finished little wooly darlings. For a first attempt of a not exactly experienced knitter, I am darn proud! The heel turn was my favorite part..so exciting! There are minimal mistakes and they are my favorite socks EVER.ย ImageImageExcuse me while I go live in the socksโ€ฆ

2013 (and half of 2012..just going to lump them together) for me was a very transitional year. I moved two separate times to two different neighborhoods in New York (moving in NYC is the most horrific experience EVER), I made many new friends, I changed to a new modeling agency, I lived in Paris for a month, had my heart broken, and found new love and a new outlook on life. Oh and I also started this blog ๐Ÿ™‚ I honestly feel as if I’m more confused on where my life is going then ever before, but I feel as though I’ve also gained a new insight into who I am.

One aspect of my job is that I always struggled with was the fact that I always felt as if who I am and what I’m all about was never good enough. I was or never have been “edgy enough”. I’m reserved, very observant, a bit of a homebody, and a crafter, but to the fashion industry they see it as “boring boring and more boring”. Sometimes it breaks my heart that nobody cheers on the model with a good head on her shoulders, who was raised to be kind, classy, and intelligent. I don’t do drugs or go clubbing on the regular. I don’t like going to parties to “hang” with celebrities and Rihanna’s not my best friend. But am I good at my job? You’re damn sure I am. I never show up to shoots late or hungover (which I’ve seen more times than I can count). I’m professional, but many times that doesn’t really matter. I’m not loud and obnoxious so sometimes I go unnoticed. So that brings me to my point, that a resolution I have for the upcoming year is to not get down on myself when the industry does. I am who I am, and that can not be changed, nor do I want it to! I think I’m super snazzy and anyone who doesn’t think so is free to never see me again ๐Ÿ™‚

ME: Super snazzy, craft lover, puppy snuggler, forest trekker, thrifty hunter, treasure seeker, crocheter/knitter, pie enthusiast, book adorer, down home North Carolina girl.

ImageDue to all those times I moved I didn’t get very much crochet done this year, or at least as much as I would’ve like. I started WAYYY too many projects and never finished like..any of them. HA! I’m definitely going to try to crochet and knit more this year, and for sure finish all those wip’s!!!! I also want to learn to knit socks, tunisian crochet, and just more knitting techniques. I want to be more on top of holidays and occasions, so I can actually make people things on time! I can DO IT!

Alrighty now that that business is taken care of I’ll show you some pictures of the strawberry patch blanket strewn about. The progress on this thing is going slow as molasses. I don’t know how those ladies on instagram crank them out in like..a week. DO THEY NOT REST? DO THEIR HANDS NOT HURT? I mean seriously. Anywho, not to get discouraged..here it is ๐Ÿ™‚

It looked so beautiful piled on my bed with the sunlight streaming in.

ImageI took it out in the yard to get a proper progress picture and I just hand to show a close up

Image

ImageIt doesn’t look big but it is. It’s gotten to the wonderful point of being able to be used as a blanket while I make it.

ImageThe other night mom and I went to see my grandmother and while routing around in her attic I came across a bag of old wool yarn. We looked at a receipt in the bag and found that my GREAT grandmother bought all the wool. She was a crocheter much like myself :). Maw Maw (my g-ma) said I could have it so I merrily took all the old luscious wool home with me. I’ll probably leave it here in NC so I’ll have some yarn to play with while I’m here and also I’ve obtained so much through Christmas and my birthday I don’t know how I’ll ever get it all back to New York, nor where I would store it!!!

ImageThat lovely green wool on the bottom is my favorite. The color is just so beautiful.

OH and another treat, I’ve run across both my first ever piece of crochet and knitting! When I decided to delve into fiber arts about 2-3 years ago I started with knitting..I thought it’d be easier for some reason. I only got good enough to make one thing and knit stitch scarf..and here it is!!

ImageThere are many many dropped stitches and weird crossovers and mistakes but I love looking at it because now I can knit without dropping stitches left and right..AND it’s something I enjoy! Rewind, so I decided I hated knitting and decided to give crocheting a go. I sat on my bed and watched and rewatched and watched a video tutorial on how to make a granny square. I did not learn how to chain, I did not learn single crochets, and I didn’t not learn how to double crochet first. I literally started with a granny square.

ImageI remember I even brought it down to dinner with me. I stared and admired it the whole meal. Ever since then I’ve been hooked (pun intended) on crochet. Whenever I come home I like to look at this wonky granny square and reflect on how much I’ve improved and how different my life was when it was made.

I think 2014 will be a truly magnificent year!

Tra la la I have a new yarn obsession, and it is with Lion Brand Hometown USA in Cambridge Tweed. It’s a 100% acrylic yarn that is woven to be incredibly thick and chunky. I adore chunky yarns. They make life so much easier. ๐Ÿ˜›

Image

Anywho, the yarn is so super soft and I just love the peeps of color through the black. Maybe the obsession is more with the color scheme, rather than the yarn itself. I wish all yarns were like this with the color peeps. I just think it’s so cute and fun. fun fun fun ๐Ÿ™‚

Image

I’ve decided to make a nice beanie for myself with this thick, chunky softness and so far is it going beautifully. I do need to get some different needles though. I like to think I’ve graduated from non-slick wooden needles to metal needles, perhaps? The wooden needles were excellent when I was a beginner because my stitches wouldn’t slip off and I was slow as molasses. Now, however, they’ve become a nightmare. My hands are so incredibly sore after a few rows from all the resistance of the yarn against the wood.ย

Image

But I got it done! I finished the hat in a day and I love it!!!! I can’t wait to start wearing it. It’s so warm and quirky and amazing.ย

ImageLook at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t stop staring at the colors!!

This yarn is definitely a good ole’ favorite. It also happened to be on sale at the time I bought it. EVEN BETTER. So there’s a good chance I’ll go back and get more….matching mittens perhaps? I just need to get my butt in gear and figure out how to knit mittens! Is it hard? I feel like it is. Good thing I’m up for a challenge!!!

Over and out ๐Ÿ™‚

Follow meeeeeee!

Happy first day of October! I love this month. Why? Halloween is just around the corner, Thanksgiving will be here soon, and Christmas is swiftly approaching! A holiday a month for quite some time ๐Ÿ™‚ My family is really into holidays. LIke..REALLY into holiday frest

Every year I aspire to make all my Christmas gifts, but always end up running out of time. I either get super stressed and crochet like hell or I end up abandoning the goods and buying gifts AFTER I’ve already purchased the yarn. This year will be different! I’ve already started making Christmas presents. This past week it’s all I’ve been doing..well I’ve been working on my strawberry patch blanket, working, and apartment hunting.

Here are a few of the presents I’ve been working on. The holiday season is upon us tra la la laaaaa.

I’ve started making a few organic cotton washcloths for everyone in the family. They’re incredibly fast to work up and feel so luxurious on your skin. I figure I can do bundles of three in lots of cute colors. These are simple single crochet washcloths. I find it takes to long to make “pretty” patterened washcloths. And these are pretty and they are so simple.

Image

Last week I made the trek up to Michaels and bought a TON of cotton. I got this huge skein of Lily’s Sugar n Cream so I can make market bags for the ladies in the family. ย It’s not quite done yet, but I’m loving how it’s looking so far.

Here’s a wonderful wool hat I made that’s for one of the fella’s in the family will get. I love the color so much. It’s a really great green colored wool with yellow and blue in it if you look close.

Image

You can see the color a bit better here. I asked my wonderful guy to model the hat for me, but he was having lots of allergy issues. So…he refused to let me take a picture of his face because he was all sniffly and snotty. Hence, the back of his head.

Image

He’s gonna tickle me in my sleep for this one. But I love this picture for some reason. ๐Ÿ™‚

Image

I found a bit of time to connect a few patches to my Strawberry Patch blanket. I LUHHHVE THIS BLANKET! It is so beautiful. EEP. The only problem is that I’m running out of yarn, fast. It’s Stylecraft yarn so I can only order it online and it not only takes about 2 weeks to get here, but the site I order from is always sold out! Grrrr.

Snuggley, girly, cutey, goodness!!!!

Here are some pictures of my wonky fall hat, modeled by my roomie Katie.

Image

Image

I love the pom pom on this hat!! It’s so cute. The yarn is Cascade Alpaca in Arctic. This yarn is incredibly soft, warm, and light weight. I will definitely be wearing this hat everyday during winter.

Image

For the ribbing I did knit 2, purl 2. The rest of the hat was knitted on circulars, so it made stockinette stitch. Whenever I thought it was long enough I started doing decreases. The fact that I never follow a pattern or I always stray is going to come back to bite me in the butt…I can just feel it. Ha…oh well.

So much some being worked up!!! I’ll keep more coming up. ๐Ÿ™‚ Merry October.

Hello all! Lately I have been so deep within the world of knitting that I haven’t done ANY crochet. I know..crazy. But I was flat out determined to learn how to knit. I’m not done with my wonky scarf yet, but I have finished my matching hat. I don’t have any pictures of the final project yet, but it’s a comin!

Yesterday I actually got around to working on my Strawberry Patch blanket again. It’s so wonderful working with bright happy colors again.

The weather has been insanely beautiful as of late, so the last week or two I’ve been into lots of outdoor knitting. Luckily I live in sortof an apartment complex-type thing here in the city, so we have a huuuuge lawn to frolick on. What does that mean? It means I drag my boyfriend outside to sit on wet grass (that he’s allergic to by the way), in the hot sun, to lay uncomfortably on a gross blanket we found. AND I LOVE IT! a;ldkfja;ldf so much happiness!

Image

Swooon, my guy on a picnic blanket, studying. This is what’s sexy people, not swag. Just saying.

Image

This was my first attempt at knitting on circular needles, or rather just trying to make anything other than a scarf. I feel like circulars are so intimidating, and double pointed needles are even more so! AHHH. But luckily I’ve managed. Can’t wait to show my finished wonky hat. ๐Ÿ™‚

The light was so wonderful as the sun was setting. Being here in the city, the thing I miss the most about home (besides my loved ones of course) is the splendid display of nature that was always around me. Little moments, such as this one, make my days a little brighter.

Image

Here’s the hat a bit more knit up. I didn’t really follow a pattern. I honestly just started going. I did a few rows of knit 2, purl 2 ribbing and then did the knit stitch from there, which happens to translate to stocknitte stitch in the round, and then I did about 6-7 rows of decrease.

Image

Image

I absolutely adore stocknitte stitch. I wish it wasn’t so finicky though.

Tis the season so I’ve done some baking as well. In honor of my dearest Autumn, I made some pumpkin spice rice crispies.

Here’s the recipe I adapted mine from:

http://lifesprinkledwithglitter.blogspot.com/2012/10/pumpkin-spice-rice-krispy-treats.html

I’ve seen a billion and one recipes for these, and in the comment section people always say they’re soggy. So using that info I made some alterations. HOWEVER, I did make a first batch that turned out awful and soggy. Why? Because I didn’t read the ingredients properly and added an entire can of pumpkin instead of a 1/4 of a cup. With making the first batch I found the pumpkin literally soaked up all the marshmallowy goodness. Also I didn’t think it had enough “spice”. With my second batch I followed the directions and used 1/4 of a cup “dried up” pumpkin. I also added half a bag more of marshmallow. I don’t think anyone would complain that their rice crispies had too much marshmallow. I also just added more of the spices. I can’t give exact amounts because I just eyeballed it. If the recipe says a tsp then I probably added half a tsp more, just to give an idea. And guess what? They turned out amazing!!

I took them to my bookers at my agency since they always hear of my baking and have never recieved anything. Not cool. Here they are all bagged up, all cute ready to go!

I’d say it’s been pretty productive around here lately. Sometimes I get a bit discouraged when I see instagrams or blogs of crocheters/knitters and they literally crank out blankets in a day or two or make 5 hats in one day. I wish I could sit down for 3 hours and do that, but I just have to get outside and move around. I love fiber arts, but I guess my attention span just isn’t that great. But I shall not get down, and I shall carry on with my fiber arts!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great week ๐Ÿ˜€
